Reclaimed Wood Shadow Box
Los Angeles, CA · 2015 · Custom Furniture & Objects
Some design problems are personal. This one began with a bouquet — and the realization that nothing on the market was built well enough, or deep enough, to preserve it properly.
Rather than compromise, the solution was designed from scratch: a custom shadow box conceived with the same material intention and fabrication rigor applied to any architectural project. The result is a wall-mounted display case built from reclaimed wood, sized precisely to house a full wedding bouquet, and detailed with brass hardware — a magnetic latch and piano hinge — that rewards close inspection.
The box is constructed from 1×6 reclaimed wood with a 1×2 reclaimed wood frame, glass front panel, and a brass wall hanger at the back. The reclaimed material was chosen deliberately: wood with a history felt right for an object meant to hold one. Dimensions were driven entirely by the bouquet itself — 10 inches wide, 18 inches tall, 6¼ inches deep — a custom fit where no off-the-shelf option existed.
Fabrication drawings were developed in full — axonometric, plan, and elevations — and executed by Farmhouse Custom Cabinetry.
